I Admit I Was Wrong!
Well . . . I am forced, after much reevaluation, to admit frankly that I was WRONG. And what a noble thing to do once in a while! To admit we were wrong, to adjust our course, to wise up, to WAKE up, to come to our senses, to remember that “there’s no place like home . . . no place like HOME“–to indulge in generous helpings of fresh home-baked HUMBLE pie, filled with generous portions of crow! Wouldn’t it be GREAT if our president felt secure enough, internally, to do the same? What was it I was wrong about?
I was wrong about my dogged assertions to war critics, back in 2003, that the Iraq invasion had NOTHING to do with oil! It has been dawning on me for some time how misguided I was, but back then I had been buying into all of our own propaganda–as well as the fear hype over WMD–all of which asserted that our every motive was as pure as the wind-driven snow, and as idealic as our Bill of Rights! THAT’S what we were ALL ABOUT . . . RIGHTS . . . CIVIL LIBERTIES–Iraqi FREEDOM!
If THAT were so, though, you would EXPECT to find the same pure idealism about LIBERTY, would apply at HOME ten times more, than in a foreign country on the opposite side of the globe! Wouldn’t you??? But the very fact of our president’s WAR ON LIBERTY and PRIVACY (see also: HERE, HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE), informs me that the TRUE motive for entering–and now remaining forever in–Iraq, must have been something besides a love for liberty!
But maybe it was more about atrocities?
Wrong again! The atrocities happening to thousands in Iraq–as terrible as I admit they WERE–were still NOTHING, in comparison to the atrocities brought to millions, directly resulting from our invasion! And what made the Iraq atrocities–which were really no comparison to some OTHERS–so much worse a situation than Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Liberia, Haiti, Sudan, or a hundred others I could name (in which cases, we did little to nothing!)?
I also used to argue, it was because of terrorism!
That fallacy has been sufficiently proved wrong by the 911 commission, and also by many other investigations into our so-called ”intelligence”, since. The reality is, that the Iraq war BROUGHT terrorism into Iraq–Al Qaeda was virtually non-existent there before our invasion–and terrorist activity is MUCH on the INCREASE all around the world, thanks to our invasion! Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Pakistan were MUCH more directly involved in the 911 attacks. Iraq had more to do, I think, with George Bush’s personal sense of unfinished business, relating to his father’s administration, than to a fair evaluation of priorities in and around the year 2002, the time when he stubbornly made up his mind to invade (or was it a long time pre-planned invasion?), regardless of what “We the People”, Congress, the CIA, his wife or the WORLD might think! It was the act of a king, not a president of a democracy.
But there was one more REASON for invasion that the White House insiders have now admitted (off the record) that they “can’t talk about”. It is a reason that it took money man Alan Greenspan to finally admit, ON THE RECORD:
WASHINGTON — – “The Iraq war is largely about oil,” former Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan says in his new book — an assertion disputed by lawmakers and the U.S. Defense secretary.Read the full article: http://www.latimes.com/news/printedition/asection/la-na-oil17sep17,1,553323.story?coll=la-news-a_section
“I’m saddened that it is politically inconvenient to acknowledge what everyone knows,” Greenspan, 81, writes . . .
. . . “Whatever their publicized angst over Saddam Hussein’s ‘weapons of mass destruction,’ American and British authorities were also concerned about violence in an area that harbors a resource indispensable for the functioning of the world economy,” he writes. . . .
. . . Greenspan said that he made his economic argument to White House officials and that one lower-level official, whom he declined to identify, told him, “Well, unfortunately, we can’t talk about oil.” . . .
I am now convinced that a Ron Paul presidency, will simply be a waking up to our real priorities, and a returning home from the surreal black and white political landscape the Bush cyclone has whisked us away to–where the only shade of color, comes when everything is viewed through a GREEN-span lens of corporate greed–back again to the TRULY golden fields of LIFE AND LIBERTY! The path back is found along the GOLDEN road of our CONSTITUTION! But to find our way ONTO this path, we must each get many OTHER people to click their ruby heels, with us, down to the voting booths, in the PRIMARIES, and then in the national election, to vote RON PAUL, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER OR NOT HE IS ON THE REPUBLICAN TICKET!THAT will make the Neocons take us seriously!
