Dr. Ron Paul Would Cure Everything That Went Wrong for Republicans in 2006

Several factors have been blamed for the Republican Party's sweeping defeat in the 2006 Congressional elections, including the unpopular war in Iraq, runaway federal spending, proposing amnesty for illegal immigrants, spying on American citizens, and personal scandals. Each of these factors undoubtedly contributed to the historic defeat of the once-ascendant conservative movement, but taken together, their impact was unstoppable.

Nominating Ron Paul would cure everything that went wrong for the Republican Party in 2006.

Ron Paul is the only Republican contender who is against the war in Iraq. With the war being the single biggest issue in the election, and with 70 percent of the voting public being against the war, no other Republican candidate could win in the general election.

Ron Paul's record on spending and taxes is second to none. He was named "The Taxpayers' Best Friend Ever" by the National Taxpayers Union. He has never voted for a tax increase or a new tax of any kind. He votes against nearly every spending bill. Other candidates claim to be fiscally conservative, but Ron Paul has walked the walk, consistently, for almost 20 years in Congress.

Ron Paul would do more than perhaps any other candidate to reduce illegal immigration, by removing the incentives for new immigrants. No federal welfare to illegal aliens. No amnesty for illegal immigrants already here. No automatic citizenship to the children of illegal immigrants.

Ron Paul would never violate the Constitutional freedoms of the American people with unconstitutional wire taps or suspensions of habeas corpus. He voted against the Patriot Act, the Military Commissions Act, and the Real ID Act. Ron Paul realizes that civil liberties are not just an issue that should concern liberals -- they are the fundamental basis of a free society.

Ron Paul is a candidate of unquestioned integrity and consistency, with an exemplary personal life. He has been married to the same woman for fifty years, has served his country in the Air Force, and has delivered over 4,000 babies as an obstetrician. He has demonstrated time and again that he takes his oath of office to uphold and defend the Constitution seriously, voting against any measure not expressly authorized in it.
