Ron Paul Supporters Out-Blast Huckabee Money Bomb

News Flash: Ron Paul supporters out-raise Mike Huckabee supporters online, $250,000 to $225,000 on the day of Huckabee's Nov. 20th "money bomb," after deciding to make it a contest with just ten hours remaining in the day. Comparative graph here.

If imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, Ron Paul fans should be feeling pretty good about themselves right about now. After the stunning success of the $4.3 million Ron Paul money bomb on November 5th, supporters of Mike Huckabee picked November 20th for a one-day online donation drive, in honor of the United Nations' Universal Children's Day.

Given their candidate's lackluster fundraising so far this year, no one was concerned that the Republican single day record was in jeopardy, but fans of the big-spending former Arkansas governor answered the call well on Tuesday morning, sending in small donations as willingly as his state legislature responded to their hero's plea for more taxes, and taking a big early lead on the typical Tuesday morning Ron Paul fundraising totals tracked at RonPaulGraphs.com.

Then two things happened, in quick succession. Ron Paul's fundraising director sent out a routine fundraising email at 1:52 PM EST. Just 37 minutes later, Green Mountain Boy, a senior member at RonPaulForums.com, sounded the call to arms with the challenge for the day: beat the Huckabee fans straight up on the day of their planned money bomb, with an impromptu response of our own.

Those watching the action live at RonPaulGraphs.com watched as the daily tracking graph took a sharp upward turn, switching instantly from horizontal to vertical. In the first four hours, Ron Paul supporters pumped another $150,000 into his campaign coffers, closing the gap significantly. At 6:56 PM EST, barely four and a half hours after making a game of it, Ron Paul took the lead for good, widening it in the last five hours of the day.

The official online tally for Ron Paul for the day was $250,346.85, from 2,853 donors giving an average of $87.75. It was the third best fundraising day of the year for Ron Paul, trailing just November 5th and the spill-over effect on November 6th.

Mike Huckabee's final online tally was not yet posted, but his running total for the month reached $1,040,291.89 at 12:32 AM on November 21st, giving him approximately $225,000 in online donations for the November 20th money bomb effort, since he started the day at $814,983.56 for the month of November.

Oddly enough, the Huckabee campaign decided to celebrate their success with a short video featuring the hit song "Nobody Does it Better."

  1. […] For Mike Huckabee, he raised $225,000 in a day. Which is pretty good for him, considering that’s almost a fourth of his entire last quarter haul. However, with about ten hours left in Huckabee’s money bomb, a handful of Ron Paul supporters decided, on a lark, to beat him for the day. The result? In that same 24 hour period, Ron raised $250,000. […]
