Some Progress Against Telco Immunity–But The Battle Ain’t Over Yet!
The very reason many of us are supporting Ron Paul so vigorously, is our anger over the wholesale destruction of our most basic civil liberties, as are CLEARLY detailed in the Bill of Rights–the most American part of America! So in the past I’ve reported on the dangerous legislation regarding FISA reauthorization–i.e. the bill that deals with government spying–and so-called updating of the same, which has been shoved through congress (find many of these articles under the Political Action Alert category of this blog). While many distressing elements have made it through without most Americans even being aware, I never-the-less have a cautiously-optimistic bit of progress to report.
So far, your calls to congress have at least kept the House and Senate from including a blanket, unconstitutional immunity for the giant telecoms in a bill going through committee, which seeks to ‘correct’ the unconstitutional so-called update to the FISA law that was shoved through congress in August by a bully president using false pretenses (lies) to manipulate law-makers.

But mark my word, the battle isn’t over. The proposal for immunity to rights and privacy violators can–and many say probably will–be written into the bill in the full sessions of the House and Senate. We MUST keep our legislators’ toes to the fire of public opinion, by calling and writing (as politely as possible, while not sounding like dumb placid sheep)!
The enemy of our Bill of Rights who sits in the White House, will try again to shove–or to silently sweep–through, this egregious attempt to immunize anyone who has ever, or will ever, violate our civil liberties in the name of assisting the government. I.E.–If telco immunity goes through in ANY form, it will set a precedent, that as long as a government official comes asking, you will be totally immune from consequences for breaking ANY law, and/or for violating ANY civil/human right/liberty! This is possibly one of the most damnable legislative proposals in recent history, and it would set up our government for further egregious abuses, the likes of which we could NEVER have imagined possible in the United States of America.
We MUST not be complacent! Just remember, that no rational person would ever have predicted that what happened in a civilized democratic Germany of the 1920s and 30s, could have happened, either, even when Germany’s system of human liberties and privacies was being gradually, but surely, subverted right before the eyes of an almost wholly indifferent world.
