December is Ron Paul Registration Month

We've won the straw polls. We're way ahead in the volunteer race. We own YouTube. We've dropped the biggest one-day money bomb in Republican primary history, and an even bigger bomb is in the works. We're even going to launch our own air force -- the Ron Paul Blimp.

Yet media pundits and political "experts" are still wondering -- will it translate into votes?

Yes, they're really asking this: Will the most numerous, most committed, most enthusiastic, most creative, and best organized grassroots political movement in anyone's memory manage to figure out how to register for the Republican primaries, and then bother to show up on election day to vote for Ron Paul?

Can we really figure out how to do this? It's not as if you can register online, on your computer, in the safety and comfort of your own home. Oh wait -- you can. Be sure to check your state's rules though -- in some, the deadline to register by mail comes early, and you may have to register in person if you miss it.

But the primaries are complicated. They happen on different days in different states. Some are open to everyone, and some aren't. Some aren't even primaries! If only someone would put up a convenient guide to all 50 states. Like this. Or maybe this.

There are rumors (probably started by Fox News) that some Ron Paul supporters aren't even registered to vote, or are still registered as independents, or Libertarians, or Democrats, or in the Constitution or Green parties. Ron Paul has attracted concerned citizens from across the political spectrum, so I suppose it's possible.

I'm sure that all of the readers of this blog have registered as Republicans to vote for Ron Paul, if they weren't already. But if you know any Ron Paul supporters who haven't, or if you've recently recruited some new Ron Paul supporters, it's time for a polite reminder.

Because time is running out. The primaries are earlier than ever in 2008, with many on or before February 5th. Voter registration deadlines are rapidly approaching, and the deadlines to change parties are even earlier -- in some cases they've already passed.

Several states have December voter registration deadlines, so don't wait -- register today. Many other states have voter registration deadlines in early January, so don't wait -- register today.

Turnout in the primaries is typically very low: 15-20% would be considered good. We can win the nomination for Ron Paul, even if he never rises above 10% in the polls, simply by making sure that all of us are registered to vote, and reminding each other to do so. There's even a convenient site to help with that.

The key to victory in the primaries isn't popularity, or fundraising, or having the best ads on TV. The key to victory in the primaries is voter turnout. And we have to be registered in order to vote.

The Ron Paul Revolution has been nothing short of amazing so far. Let's continue to amaze, starting with a massive voter registration drive this December.
