Tea Party Money Bomb Kicks Into High Gear
After the typical overnight slowing, Ron Paul's Tea Party money bomb started picking up the pace again after 8 AM Eastern time. The total for the day reached one million dollars around 6 AM, and crossed the two million dollar mark shortly after 11 AM.
As of 1:20 PM, the day's total stands at $2.68 million. That would project out to a 24-hour total of $4.8 million, but the rate has picked up significantly in the past few hours. Between 10 AM and noon, over $600,000 poured in to Ron Paul's campaign coffers. If that rate could be maintained until midnight, the total would exceed $6 million for the day.
A comparison to the November 5th graph shows today's money bomb with nearly a one million dollar lead, and increasing at a faster rate than it did during the second half of that four million dollar effort.
So far, USA Today and the Boston Globe have picked up on the story.
2:17 PM EST: The Tea Party money bomb just topped the three million dollar mark, roughly five hours faster than the November 5th money bomb did.
3:53 PM EST: The quarterly total just reached $15,000,000 -- exceeding the once unthinkable third quarter goal by $3 million, and bringing the Tea Party total up to $3.45 million, with just over 8 hours remaining.
7:45 PM EST: The four million dollar mark was reached right around 6 PM, and the November 5th total of $4.3 million was eclipsed near 7 PM. With the current total at $4.6 million for the day, and the rate holding steady at close to $300,000 per hour all afternoon, the final tally should be somewhere around $5.9 million -- very near Hillary Clinton's reported single day record of $6.2 million. (Other sources put the real record at $5.7 million by John Kerry.)
