ALERT! Paul News Keeps Looking Up, But IOWA HELP IS NEEDED!

The news keeps looking better and better for Ron Paul's expected surprise:

...Among the Republicans, the Independent sees Giuliani finishing sixth, Ron Paul capable of pulling off a big surprise...

...But let's not count out the Ron Paul troops. Most mainstream political people dismiss Paul as a quirky sideshow. Sure, he can raise money. Sure, he can dominate on-line polls (including the one on this page). But, the conventional wisdom goes, Paul's only got 6% support in the national polls. That weakness will show up once the voting starts.

Will it? What if Paul beats McCain, Thompson and Giuliani in Iowa? And what if he isn't that far back from Romney and Huckabee? And what if all the press he gets in the week between Iowa and New Hampshire gets New Hampshire voters remembering their state motto: "Live free or die," which could be the Libertarian anthem? And what if he does well in Nevada, which generally expresses the sentiment of the independent-minded western states?

...if Thompson, Huckabee, and McCain fall away after the early primaries because they run out of money, we might see a marathon struggle among Giuliani, Romney and Paul---with Paul grabbing the libertarian wing of the party...

But Ron Paul needs YOUR help, desperately, in Iowa, IF YOU CAN GO!  Especially those who live NEAR Iowa, as I do, are needed to help put more boots on the ground.  For instance, the Iowa media market I am nearest to (which happens to be our media market, too) is Sioux City, and they recently sent out the following call for help to my local Meetup:

My name is Roman Schroeder from the Minnesota office. Last
night I was tasked by Meghann Walker and Dr. Iverson of the Des
Moines office with running the canvassing and phone bank
efforts in the Sioux City IA area.

Currently we are a little short on help. So I am asking
(begging) for any assistance your group may be able to provide.
I need people. Even if it's just for one day to come up to
Sioux City and help us go door to door and man the phones to
spread the message of freedom.

So if anyone in your group can come up any day (or more)
between the 26th and the 3rd to give us a hand that would be
tremendous.

If you cannot help us. We'll do our best with what little we
have.

My cell is 312-497-3546 or email me at giantlobster@hotmail.com
I'm sure that similar help is needed in other areas of Iowa, as well, SOOOOOO...

...If you can spare even ONE DAY to sacrifice for the cause of liberty, and you are able to get away to Iowa, PLEASE go and give the front-line troops a personal boost!

Zogby Expects A Paul Surprise

Check out this Zogby quote:

...Ron Paul: He's going to do better than anyone expects. Look to Paul to climb into the double-digits in Iowa. Why? He's different, he stands out. He's against the war and he has the one in four Republicans who oppose the war all to himself. Libertarianism is hot, especially among free-market Republicans and 20-somethings. And he's an appealing sort of father figure. He's his own brand. All he needs to do is beat a couple of big names in Iowa, then New Hampshire is friendlier territory. After all, the state motto is "Live Free or Die."...

Ron Paul Tied in Iowa For Third

CBS News correspondent Dean Reynolds has made it clear: Ron Paul is no longer a fringe candidate for the 2008 US Presidency.  His campaign is now tied in third place in Iowa where even his own loyal supporters questioned if he could win there.

And in live-free-or-die New Hampshire, he believes his anti-Iraq war, anti-tax, pro-freedom message with its libertarian tinge may resonate.

"People are flocking to the campaign," says Paul. "Maybe they've been starved for a campaign like this."

Paul's trip to Plymouth was promising: one woman told Reynolds that he was following the next president.

"Absolutely! No doubt," she says.

Last week, Ron Paul's campaign raised over $6 million in a single day.  He's raised close to $20 million this quarter.

Paul is listed with 10/1 odds of becoming the next US president at Sportsbook.com  He is virtually tied there as well with Mike Huckabee at 9/1 odds and Mitt Romney at 8/1 odds.

Listening to the mainstream news media daily it is as if there is a new frontrunner among Republicans every day.  Last week, Mike Huckabee was the darling of the press, this week it's John McCain who is showing signs of life.  Yet one constant is that Ron Paul continues to rake in tons of cash from his loyal supporters and now even the polls are starting to reflect his enormous popularity.

FBI Building’s Namesake Sought Mass Arrest, Suspension of Habeas Corpus–Or Just One More Reason We Need Ron Paul As President

Here's a chilling thought:  J. Edgar was ahead of his time by nearly 60 years!  If HE had been the president in 1950, thousands of Americans would have been rounded up, based upon so-called secret evidence derived from years of warrantless wiretapping and unconstitutional spying, and they would have been denied all legal recourse to challenge their detentions.  Even the right to see so-called evidence against them would have been prohibited, all in the name of "national security."

Sound familiar?

And would you be willing to wager, that if he had NOT been opposed, the kindred spirit now residing in our White House, would similarly have had no compunction about rounding up HUNDREDS of thousands of even AMERICANS without probable cause, denying them access to so-called secret evidence, and their sacred habeas right to challenge their detention?  I would wager that, exactly, based on overwhelming evidence, and I'M not a gambler!

We can just be thankful that J. Edgar never became president, and that cooler heads prevailed over his absolute insanity, but the similarity of instincts between not only our PRESENT president and J. Edgar, but between a great many of the CANDIDATES now running, and J. Edgar Hoover, are positively eerie, and they highlight just ONE MORE REASON why Ron Paul MUST win this election!

Consider the facts recently uncovered:

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Former FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover had a plan in 1950 to suspend the right to habeas corpus and imprison some 12,000 Americans he suspected of disloyalty, The New York Times reported on their web site on Saturday.

Hoover wanted President Harry Truman to proclaim the mass arrests necessary to "protect the country against treason, espionage and sabotage" and sent the plan to the White House 12 days after the start of the Korean War, the Times reported, citing a newly declassified document.

There is no evidence to suggest Truman or any other president approved any part of Hoover's proposal.

According to the Hoover plan, the FBI would "apprehend all individuals potentially dangerous" to national security.

The arrests would come from a list of approximately 12,000 names that Hoover had been compiling for years, the Times said.

"In order to make effective these apprehensions, the proclamation suspends the Writ of Habeas Corpus," Hoover's proposal said, referring to the right to seek relief from illegal detention, a centuries-old fundamental principle of law.

According to the Constitution, habeas corpus must prevail "unless when in cases of rebellion or invasion, the public safety may require it." But Hoover's proposal broadened that to include "threatened invasion" or "attack upon United States troops in legally occupied territory," the Times said.

Prisoners would have the right to an eventual hearing from a board made up of one judge and two citizens. The hearings, however, would "not be bound by the rules of evidence," Hoover's letter added.

Habeas corpus is currently at issue in the United States, with President George W. Bush following...

Top Ten Reasons Ron Paul Can Win

Despite Ron Paul's impressive grassroots support and fundraising prowess, the mainstream media continue to portray him as a long shot, relying almost entirely on random telephone surveys with a notoriously poor record of predicting primary results. Unfortunately for Ron Paul, many voters who like his message of freedom, prosperity, and peace still doubt his chances, and want to vote for someone who "can win."

Personally, I would vote for Ron Paul regardless of his chances, but having followed the campaign closely since he announced in March, I am convinced that he has a very good chance of winning the Republican nomination, and the Presidency. Here are the top ten reasons why:

Top Ten Reasons Ron Paul Can Win

10. The Internet. In previous elections, if the mainstream media consigned a candidate to the sidelines, he stayed there. Now, thanks to YouTube, Google, discussion forums, blogs, and the ability of readers to comment on major news articles, candidates like Ron Paul can no longer be hidden from public view, and networks of support can develop and strengthen on their own.

9. The falling dollar. Early on, Ron Paul was dismissed by media pundits as the guy worried about details of monetary policy that most voters didn't care about and couldn't understand. After the dollar's precipitous drop this year, Ron Paul's warnings about easy credit and calls for sound money have sparked serious debate in the financial community, and his condemnation of the "inflation tax" has struck a nerve with the voters.

8. Inaccurate polls. Anyone who assumes that the polls are in any way predictive of the results need only look back to 2004, when John Kerry came from way behind to win the Democratic nomination. Besides the oft-noted inaccuracies in polling methodology, the simple fact is that most voters haven't yet decided who they will vote for, and we won't find out until election day.

7. Appeal to Democrats. While the top Democratic candidates won't promise to bring the troops home from Iraq in the next four years, and the Democratic Congress does nothing to protect our fading civil liberties, Ron Paul's strong record against the war and for saving our Constitutional freedoms has already persuaded many Democrats to re-register as Republicans for the primary, and would make him a strong candidate in the general election.

6. Appeal to Independents. While some Republican and Democratic partisans view politics as a game of one-upping the other side and advancing their own agendas, independents are more interested in finding the best solutions to the problems facing the nation, regardless of their source. Ron Paul's willingness to discuss problems at their fundamental level, and to propose solutions outside the usual limits of debate has given him strong appeal to independent thinkers. Independent voters are key to winning early primary states like New Hampshire and Michigan, and will make Ron Paul an even stronger candidate in the general election.

5. Appeal to Republicans. While Ron Paul earns most of his attention for his anti-war stand, he is more conservative across the board than any of the other top Republican candidates. He is solidly pro-life, pro-Second Amendment, pro-smaller government, pro-Constitution, pro-free market, anti-illegal immigration, pro-border security, anti-tax, and pro-freedom. When conservatives seriously consider the issues that matter most to them, they discover that Ron Paul is the only major contender who is consistently on their side.

4. Principled consistency and personal integrity. In an age when flip-flopping candidates like Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, and Rudy Giuliani could hold YouTube debates against younger versions of themselves on issues like abortion, immigration, taxes, and the Second Amendment, Ron Paul stands out for sticking to his limited government principles throughout his ten terms in Congress. Voters will support a candidate with unquestioned integrity, even when they disagree with him on some issues.

3. Unlimited funding. The November 5th and December 16th money bombs earned more than ten million dollars for the Ron Paul campaign, but they also delivered something even more important -- the ability to return for another round from more than 100,000 small donors, while the big-money donors of the other contenders are already tapped out. Mitt Romney can keep loaning himself money, but the other candidates can't. If it becomes a national campaign after the early contests, Ron Paul is one of the few candidates who can afford to compete everywhere.

2. Grassroots support in all 50 states. Establishment candidates are accustomed to relying on their advantages in money and media coverage to win in the primaries. Ron Paul's supporters have used the Internet to circumvent those barriers, and to establish a national network of over 80,000 volunteers in over 1,000 cities. If no one wraps up the Republican nomination in the early going, Ron Paul's grassroots network will give him a decided advantage in later contests, and the ability to respond wherever it is most crucial. The political "experts" might be have missed this huge advantage, but Rudy Giuliani knows we're out there.

1. Voter turnout. The main reason that pre-primary polls are so often wrong is that voter turnout is exceedingly low in the primaries, and it is hard to predict who will actually show up to vote. Candidates generating genuine enthusiasm will do much better than predicted, as will those whose supporters are well organized. Have you run into any enthusiastic McCain, Giuliani, or Thompson supporters lately? Anyone questioning the enthusiasm or organization of Ron Paul's supporters needs only to consider his impressive record in party-organized straw polls, or to reflect on why other candidates with supposedly greater support have been unable to organize their own money bombs. Ron Paul supporters will show up on election day.

Ron Paul Named “Person of the Year” on McLaughlin Group

On the McLaughland Group’s annual awards show:

John McLaughlin awarded Ron Paul “Person of the Year.” “The physician-politician,” McLaughland said, “he injected the Presidential campaign with a dose of truth serum. Paul’s straight talk on Iraq, and his straight talk on the Constitution, as Buchanan pointed out, and the limits of government have made him an Internet phemonema. In fact, Paul has become an independent force in the nation’s life.”

Clarence Page awarded Ron Paul “Most Charasmatic.”

Eleanor Clift awarded Ron Paul “Capitalist of the Year” for his Internet fundraising.

Pat Buchanan awarded Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC) “Most Original Thinker” for his resolution to prohibit war on Iran without Congressional approval. Buchanan mentioned that it was co-sponsored by Ron Paul.

The show was taped today and is broadcast different times this weekend in different areas. Check local listings.
