National Taxpayers Union: Only Ron Paul Would Cut Spending

NTU Report: Other Republicans would increase spending by billions

According to a report released Tuesday by the National Taxpayers Union, Texas Congressman Ron Paul is the only remaining presidential candidate who proposes net spending cuts.

According to the report, Congressman Paul’s proposals would cut government spending by over $150 billion, a conservative estimate of the spending reductions Dr. Paul has proposed.  The report concludes that the other remaining Republican candidates, Mitt Romney, John McCain and Mike Huckabee, have proposed spending increases of $19.5 billion, $6.9 billion and $54 billion respectively.

“It should come as no surprise that when you crunch the numbers Ron Paul is the only Republican who would actually shrink the size and cost of the federal government,” said Ron Paul campaign economic advisor Don Luskin.  “Romney, McCain and Huckabee don’t hold a candle to Ron Paul – the only true fiscal conservative running for President.”

In ten terms in Congress, Ron Paul has never voted for a tax increase or for an unbalanced budget.

You say you want a revolution?

Every movement in history has faced some time of testing, some experience that either forges it into something strong and unified, or forces it to fade away into the history books as another failed experiment.

Dr. Paul has written to you that we are heading straight for Super Tuesday. Our opponents are free to beat up on each other and wear themselves down while we gather our supporters and prepare to storm the convention with delegates.

Last night, over 60,000 people stood up and asked for an end to the runaway violation of our liberties. But contrary to the impression you may be getting from the mainstream media, no national delegates have yet been won in Florida. Those delegates will only be awarded between February 6 and April 30 at delegate selection caucuses, and many of those delegates will be supporters of Dr. Paul.

Ron Paul is the only candidate not to give up on any state in the Republican race, and just as we competed strongly in overlooked states like Nevada and Louisiana, so too will we compete in Maine, Minnesota, and other states that the so-called "top-tier" candidates are content to ignore.

Now, as the focus shifts to Super Tuesday, Rudy's campaign is crushed, Huckabee is losing momentum by the day, and McCain and Romney are fighting over who is the most liberal.

We've been here before. In 1776, despite a courageous effort at holding onto the city, George Washington ceded New York and quickly retreated to New Jersey.

1777 brought the British recapture of Fort Ticonderoga, as well as American defeats at Brandywine and Germantown.

And then, during the winter of 1777-1778, Washington and his army faced perhaps their most humiliating moment, forced to endure a harsh Pennsylvania winter with limited supplies at Valley Forge.

The American revolutionaries dealt with their defeats, focused on their goals, and emerged from Valley Forge as a force that would defeat the most powerful nation on earth.

Our momentum is building. Each one of us, from Dr. Paul himself down to the grassroots supporter who donates the last $5 he or she can give, is focused on the goal.

Early in the struggle for American independence, George Washington wrote: "Perseverance and spirit have done wonders in all ages." Even then, Washington realized that a fierce struggle for self-government can only be won with a spirit of determination equal to the challenge.

Today, in the midst of our new revolution, let's consider Washington's words once again. The task before us is enormous. The foes of liberty are deeply entrenched, and they will not relinquish their power without a struggle.

But fighting in our favor is the unconquerable human spirit, the innate desire to be free. We must embrace this inner strength, dig in our heels, and persevere, just as Washington and his rag-tag colonials, the first American grassroots patriots, did before us. And if we must pass through a Valley Forge or two along the way to victory, let those times of testing temper the steel of our determination.

If Ron Paul is to continue his fight for liberty to the Republican Convention, we need your help in two critical ways:

1. Become a precinct leader today: It's easy, but more importantly, it's vital to Ron Paul's success: https://voters.ronpaul2008.com.

2. Donate: Just as the Continental Congress supplied General Washington's troops in the field, we too must raise as much money as we can to equip our grassroots supporters.

Help us win this revolution and usher in a new era of freedom, peace, and prosperity. Donate today: https://www.ronpaul2008.com/donate.

Now Is The Time For Our BEST Efforts!

***Prior Article Highlight! Check out: WHY THEY HATE HIM***

It is impressing me more and more every day that NOW is not the time to lose any of our steam, or to ease back on our support for Dr. No.  NOW is the time when the presidential field is narrowing, and when many more voters are starting to see Dr. Paul as their ONLY OPTION!  Check out this off-hand comment by Rob Kall of OpEdNews fame (from his e-mail newsletter).  It speaks volumes on the situation that is now developing in his camp, for those who love the constitutional protections outlined in our Bill of Rights:

...This has been a tough week, with, first Dennis Kucinich and next John Edwards dropping out of the presidential race-- generally, the two candidates considered, in the order I listed them, the most progressive. That leaves two Democratic candidates who are more centrist. I know some of our readers will be unhappy with the remaining choices. Some will go green, some will shift their hopes to Ron Paul, some will hope for a third party candidate entry like Bloomberg, Nader, or perhaps even Paul/Kucinich. (I'm just recapitulating what has been written on the site in articles, diaries and comments...

...In a way, there is a feeling of writing an obituary here, because the truly progressive candidates are now, really, finally out of the picture....

...Now, we have two democratic candidates and four republican candidates to choose from (OpEdNEws is a non-profit, therefor non-partisan site.) Among those, three are actually considered by our readers-- Clinton, Obama and Paul...

And on the conservative side, I've already shared with you how some of the most famous of conservatives are taking notice of Ron Paul (see HERE and HERE).  Cal Thomas said that Ron Paul is the only Republican acting like a true conservative; Paul Harvey, the other day pointed out that Ron Paul was the only candidate who alerted the public that congress just voted themselves another pay raise.  So many true fiscal conservatives are disgusted with the stop-gap Federal Reserve measures, which in the end only put Americans to sleep about our real condition and drive our dollar even lower.  In an effort to appease the national discontent driving Ron Paul's successes, Mr. Ben and the neo-corporate-con government he works for are now playing Santa Claus!

There are conservatives all over the place who, if they truly believed Paul could win, would throw their enthusiastic support onto his campaign.  But here is the NEWS FLASH!  Paul CAN win!  LET IT BE KNOWN!  And now is the time when a Ron Paul surge is the most LIKELY!

Hang in there and do EVERYTHING YOU CAN!  Things are lining up for the possibility of an overwhelming surprise to this nation and to the world!  Believe it, act it, donate for it, sacrifice to make it happen!

It may be cold outside right now, but it will be an even COLDER day for America--for LIBERTY--if one of our opponents wins the White House!

Necessity Isn’t Only The Mother Of Invention, It Is The Excuse For All Tyranny

"Necessity is the plea for every infringement on human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants; it is the creed of slaves".

Two-thirds of Florida Republicans Vote Against McCain

With 94% of the precincts reporting in Florida, Ron Paul has posted his worst showing of the campaign so far with 3% of the vote. The news from the night isn't entirely bad, however. Rudy Giuliani is reportedly dropping out after his third place finish with 15% of the vote. Whatever momentum Mike Huckabee had after winning Iowa is now completely gone, as he couldn't even beat Giuliani, placing fourth with 14%. Mitt Romney took second with 31% of the vote, but gets no delegates for the effort, since Florida is winner-take-all.

John McCain walks away with the post-penalty 57 delegates, passing Romney in the delegate chase and earning the now-dreaded title of national front-runner. Yet it's hard to imagine the Republican base getting excited at the prospect of rallying around McCain. He wasn't just on the pro-amnesty side of last summer's big showdown on illegal immigration, he was leading the pro-amnesty forces with Ted Kennedy and President Bush, against the grassroots conservatives.

He was against the Bush tax cuts before he was for them. Independent voters might see his global warming junket to Alaska with Hillary Clinton as a sign of bipartisanship, but conservatives view it as part of a dangerous tendency to compromise with liberals. And conservatives have long seen his signature McCain-Feingold Campaign Finance Reform Act as an unconstitutional assault on the First Amendment.

Not surprisingly, McCain's victory in Florida, like his win in South Carolina, was achieved with an unimpressive plurality -- just 36% of the vote this time, following a 33% showing in South Carolina. How many national front-runners can unite their party with two-thirds of the base against them? If Huckabee follows Giuliani to the exits, McCain will no longer benefit from Huckabee splitting the conservative vote with Romney.

What does it all mean for Ron Paul? Not much, as he wasn't counting on a strong showing in Florida, having already begun focusing his attention on the upcoming Maine caucuses and the Super Tuesday states. The 3% tally may hurt for now, but a thinning field makes voters that much more likely to consider him seriously, beginning with the Reagan Library debate tomorrow night.

Ron Paul is still signing up precinct leaders nationwide, the money is still flowing into the campaign, the all-out advertising assault is being launched, endorsements are rolling in, and another money bomb is in the works. Over 90% of the delegates are still up for grabs. If voters seriously investigate the remaining candidates, and want to support a candidate who is reliably conservative on all the issues, with a consistent voting record to prove it, Ron Paul will remain in this race for the long haul.

Arlo Guthrie Backs Ron Paul

Republican presidential candidate and Texas Congressman Ron Paul’s campaign has been endorsed by legendary folk singer-songwriter Arlo Guthrie.

Guthrie, known for a series of hits including “Alice’s Restaurant,” issued the following endorsement of Dr. Paul:

“I love this guy. Dr. Paul is the only candidate I know of who would have signed the Constitution of The United States had he been there. I’m with him, because he seems to be the only candidate who actually believes it has as much relevance today as it did a couple of hundred years ago. I look forward to the day when we can work out the differences we have with the same revolutionary vision and enthusiasm that is our American legacy.”

Libertarian Party Response to the State of the Union

“Tonight’s State of the Union address went much as expected.  Instead of calling for a more limited role of the federal government in American society, the President laid out plans that would only increase the government’s intervention into the realm of economics, health care, education and foreign policy.  It is unfortunate to see that after seven years of increasing the size of government and increasing the government’s presence in the day to day lives of all Americans, the President refuses to limit the scope of the federal government, a once championed virtue of the President’s party.  The President’s last State of the Union address encapsulated his legacy of an abandonment of the principles of limited government and individual freedom.”

“While the Libertarian Party applauds the President on taking a stand against wasteful government spending–though his administration has been a large contributor to this problem–and opening up more foreign markets to trade, we offer the following solutions to issues the President brought up in his address:

Ron Paul Backs up New Ad with Straight Talk: GOP Rivals are

Ron Paul Backs up New Ad with Straight Talk: GOP Rivals are
Fake Conservatives

ARLINGTON, VIRGINIA – On the heels of a new television campaign contrasting his fiscal conservatism against the record of his opponents, Congressman Ron Paul today sharply criticized his Republican counterparts for their record of tax hikes, deficit financing and wasteful spending.

“A real fiscal conservative always votes for balanced budgets, lower spending and would never, ever raise taxes. Every one of my opponents fails that litmus test. These so-called conservatives are misleading the American people about their records,” said Dr. Paul.

In a newly released TV ad entitled "The Only One," airing in Super Tuesday primary states, the campaign says that Dr. Paul is the only candidate who has "Never supported a tax increase. Never supported an unbalanced budget. Never supported wasteful government spending.” To view the ad, click here.

"It is interesting to see all of these guys calling each other liberals. The fact is they are all telling the truth. They are all a bunch of liberals...and Republican conservative voters know that. This is why real conservative leaders like Barry Goldwater, Jr. have endorsed me," continued Dr. Paul, a 10-term Republican Congressman from Texas.

Dr. Paul strongly supported Ronald Reagan's campaign for President in Texas in 1976 and was one of four members of Congress that year to endorse Reagan over Gerald Ford.

"When I was leading the Reagan delegation to the Republican National Convention, most of my opponents were voting for Democrats or cheering for Ford. And now they want us to believe they are true conservatives? It's all politics, it’s a sham and everyone knows it. That's why they are having a hard time getting true conservative voters to support them," concluded Dr. Paul.

Dr. Paul has consistently been named "The Taxpayers' Best Friend" by the National Taxpayers Union for having the strongest record in “voting for lower taxes, less spending, balanced budgets and upholding the Constitution."
